Your mailbox has a letter in it! This must be your lucky day!
Or unlucky day. Walking to the mailbox means going outside. A feat you shouldn't take lightly in Althar.
Althar's not necessarily a //bad// place. Lots of good things be said about it. It's beautiful. It's prosperous. It has a rich culture. It has a unique and interesting history.
<<replacelink But...>>It's also hot.
Like, really hot. Hot enough to make you think twice about walking twenty feet to pick up a letter. Hot enough to make you wonder if you were right to pack everything up and move here.
<<replacelink "Steel yourself and step outside.">>The heat of the day sears your eyeballs and burns your lungs.
That letter better not be junk mail.
Start_letter<<endreplacelink>><<endreplacelink>><span class="pamphletimg">[img[letterr.png]]</span>
The letter doesn't //look// like junk mail. Your address is hand-written, not printed, and the envelope is sealed by a wax stamp.
<<replacelink "Open it.">>//Welcome, lucky winner!
You are invited to my house to tour my 'Monsters from Monsters' wax exhibit!
This is an all-new, never-before-seen event, and I want your input before I open it up to the public!
I, Price, will personally lead you through the exhibit, and you will be given the opportunity to witness dangerous and monstrous creatures in their natural habitats!
Many of these creatures have never been documented in any form! At least one of them is guaranteed to attempt to kill you if you come across it in the wild!
Show up at the address this Friday, at sundown. Or you'll regret it.
1507 Aljai Wastes Road
Lower Althar//
<<replacelink "Put the letter down.">>Wow! You can't remember the last time you won anything!
You... also can't remember entering a contest. And... Lower Althar? You're in Upper Althar. Getting to that address would take all day!
To make matters worse, Friday is //today!//
If you want to get there in time to claim your free 'Monsters from Monsters' wax exhibit tour, you'd better leave now.
You could also just go about your day and forget all about the letter. For all you know, it could be a clever scam.
Start_believe
Start_end<<endreplacelink>><<endreplacelink>>You spend the majority of the day traveling to Lower Althar. Nothing remarkable happens during your commute, and you arrive at the address with a little bit of sunlight to spare.
House_arriveConfident that it would be literally impossible for this letter to be authentic, you throw it away.
You resume your very normal and uneventful life. You ride it out to completion, and just as old age comes to claim you, <<insertlink "you wonder...">>
"//Was I wrong to throw away that letter, all those years ago?//"
Yes. You were wrong.
The letter wasn't junk mail. You really did win a tour of the wax exhibit. Price picked you out specifically, and she was expecting you. She was looking forward to meeting you.
//They're here? They're just in time! I'm so glad! I hope they're not nervous about meeting me.// <<insertlink "//I need to get everything ready...//">>
That's what she said about you, all those years ago. She was disappointed when you didn't show. She wanted to make an exhibit just for you.
You could have had such fun. You and her would have gotten along very well. She would have introduced you to many famous individuals.
But you didn't go. <<insertlink "You threw the letter out.">>
You wish you could go back, but you can't. You can never go back. <<insertlink "It's too late for that."">>
You die of old age, filled with regret.
The End.<<endinsertlink>><<endinsertlink>><<endinsertlink>><<endinsertlink>>For allegedly being the home of Price, one of Owel's most popular and wealthy TV personalities, it doesn't appear to be anything special.
Actually, to hell with special. It looks shoddy and neglected. The lawn is more weeds than grass, the pond is filled with algae, and the walkway leading to the door is cracked and uneven.
The house itself looks no better. The paint is peeling, and several of the windows are cracked. There's no way this is the right house.
Just then, a small, tattered sign above the door <<insertlink "catches your eye.">>

//Model name: Biff//
The classic. The one that started it all. It's very rare to come across a necropossum, and rarer still to come across a still-living necropossum; they have a tendency to get themselves into fatal situations.
Hereditary influence: Low
Environmental influence: High
Language: Fae
//Believe it or not, necropossums are a type of fairy! All types of necropossum can speak and read Fae.//
Ability to reason: High
//Even though most of them are, well, zombies, they're an intelligent bunch. You'd think that cessation of all brain activity would make them a bit slow, but you would be wrong.//
Affinities: Spirit, usually
Weakness/Resistance: Varies on physiology and affinity
__Physiology__
Necropossums are extremely varied. They're all in different states of decomposition, and they love to replace parts of their body with, well, whatever they feel like. The sky's the limit.
Only necropossums that have never died can reproduce, and then only with species similar in physiology. That's why hybrids are very, very rare.
__Ability: Play Dead__
It's where they get their name!
When they die, as long as their head (brain, to be specific) is intact, they'll come back to life! Kind of. They stop growing, sure, and their body needs special upkeep to prevent the ever-present threat of decomposition, but that doesn't matter. Right?
It's currently unknown how they come back to life, but it has to do with the mushrooms that sprout from them after they die.
__Ability: Play Life__
All necropossums can raise bodies from the dead and order them around. The risen dead are just puppets, however, so you don't have to worry about a necropossum resurrecting your grandma and having her //actually// be there! It's just her corpse. No big deal.
Necropossums can also manipulate bodies that were //never// alive, like dolls, puppets, and mannequins. This type of manipulation is becoming very popular, since things like dolls need very little upkeep and smell better than zombies.
__Special notes__
Necropossums do tend to get into fatal situations, but they do not have a death wish! They just don't seem to have the "avoid danger at all costs" instinct that other species have.
They're also prone to loneliness, and often seek out friendship. However, due to their zombie-ish nature and the scent of decay that accompanies it, friends are hard to come by.
__Even more special note__
Don't be afraid of any type of necropossum! They make great friends.
Except the Deadwoods. Don't go near them.

Like all necropossums, deathwalkers are prone to loneliness. Their terrifying appearance tends to upset the general population to the point where they choose to live outside of Althar rather than in it. So if you happen to see one, say hello, won't you? It'll probably make their day.

Ice Cream looks like a Clover Lamb without any wool. This is assuming normal Clover Lambs don't have any skin or internal organs, and is probably incorrect.
__Ability: Power Ballad__
Her voice can //actually// shred your soul. It's not necessarily fatal, but I don't think it's something you can easily recover from.
Her voice can also guard against all evil. Or so she says.
__Special Notes__
She's the official musician of Trebol! And the lead singer for We All Scream, Trebol's most dark and brutal metal band.

__Physiology__
Whether they're a skeleton or not, they usually look like a Vanguard that's gotten into a terrible accident, even if they've never died before.
__Ability: No Response__
Wounds inflicted by a bonefish are extremely dangerous. They poison and shut down the immune system, often resulting in localized disease and infection.
Accidental wounds from a bonefish (such as the result of horsing around or wrestling) are not dangerous, and heal normally.
__Special notes__
Bonefish take pride in their Vanguard heritage and enjoy socializing with others, but due to their appearance are often shunned by everyone. Their attempts to rescue drowning swimmers are often met with fear and misunderstanding, and divers have been known to almost panic and faint when coming across a bonefish unexpectedly.
So if you're out in the ocean and see a horrible, dead-looking sea-creature swimming toward you, feel at ease. Like vanguards, they're good company.

__Ability: Tiny Man's__
Kersey says it's short for Tiny Mannequins, but they don't //have// to be tiny. They can control dozens of small mannequins at a time, or several large-sized mannequins at a time. It's kind of unnerving to see the larger ones creep about the shadows, even for me.
__Special notes__
Kersey kept following me after the interview was over, and after asking them several times why, they finally told me they had something for me: a tiny Price doll made of yarn. They told me that they're often lonely, and that they try to play near anyone who will tolerate them. They hand out dolls to show their appreciation.

__Ability: Is a Vampire__
I'm a vampire. It comes with most of the benefits that probably come to mind when you hear the word.
__Ability: Broadcast Channel__
Why travel to the ends of the world to find //one// individual when I can broadcast my message to thousands? If you're one of the special individuals I mentioned earlier, you'll either //really// like or //really// dislike my show. I don't know which one, and I don't have any control over it. I don't choose your prophecy, I just deliver it.
__Special notes__
I may or may not have been kidding about the stakes during my part of the exhibit. Please, be courteous. I try very hard to fit into society and share my talents with everyone, but sometimes it's difficult to do that and have to deal with attempts on my life as I sleep.
